In an age where mighty corporations and online postal services dominate the video rental industry whilst pay-per-view and cheap supermarket retail DVDs nip at their heels for cash crumbs, what of the good old humble indie video store?

The indies of the UK got washed away by a sea of corporate blue and unsupportive film distributors. Few remain, but in the little university town of Oxford, one indie remains and stands proud, laughing in the face of the monolithic multinational and mocking their selection, pricing, pasty-faced staff and stale odour. That indie is the mighty VIDEOSYNCRATIC. With a branch on each side of the city, VIDEOSYNCRATIC has reminded the good people of Oxford about the value of films older than 6 months and made it their mission to introduce these folks to the best, most amazing unsung films that they might otherwise have missed.

Owned, operated and staffed by complete film freaks, our shops are a mecca for film fans. You won't find plastic walling, in-your-face advertising or corporate instore TV shows here. Just thousands and thousands of films (and, that's thousands of different films, not just thousands of copies of Big Momma's House 2) in a comfortable, relaxed environment. We're not a multinational, we have no ulterior motive, we just love film and feel that should be the sole motivating force behind a video shop.

We can transfer films between branches (use the search facility on this page to check if we have what you're after) and genuinely listen to our customers' requests. Each week along with new releases, we buy a lot of back catalogue stuff and have the most complete and comprehensive selection of films in the area. We're also cheaper and offer far better value than our corporate competitors. You are powerless to resist.

In the spirit of the retail venture, Videosyncratic has now launched its own DVD label - meaning we're also branching out into distribution. Not content with bringing the best releases to the people of Oxford, we've decided to release the best films for the whole of the UK. Our first release is a demented punk rock comedy from Seattle called Jerkbeast, we loved it so much the first time we saw it, that we were inspired to start the label to get it out there.
